Devon is keen to promote itself as one of the UK’s Greenest counties.

Devon’s image as the UK’s Greenest County is aimed at inspiring local businesses and individuals to support and protect the environment – which for Devon is a key asset. As well as supporting and engaging with many existing green projects and businesses, organisations such as DEBI – the Devon Environmental Business Initiative, exist to encourage and support the take up of environmentally friendly businesses, and business practices. By encouraging environmentally friendly businesses, it is hoped that Devon will become a centre for companies that promote and develop renewable energy, environmental protection, and action against climate change.

Other organisations designed to support green businesses include ‘Our South West’ and ‘Envision’ which aim to provide support and assistance to new and existing businesses in Devon wanting to make a positive difference to the environment. By going ‘Green’ not only will carbon footprints, and environmental impact be reduced, but real monetary savings can be made, through efficiency savings, recycling and reduced energy consumption. Devon currently recycles 50% of all domestic waste, and is constantly looking at ways to increase recycling; including initiatives such as the Devon Community Recycling Network.
