We're connected
Whether by rail, road, air or sea, Devon enjoys excellent, fast links to UK and overseas destinations.
Superfast Broadband
Most of Devon’s urban areas and market towns already enjoy fast and reliable broadband. And as part of the Connecting Devon and Somerset project, superfast broadband will be available throughout our rural areas too.
With a successful bid to government for £31m, there is an investment package worth £100m+ which aims to ensure that 85% of all premises will have coverage of superfast broadband by 2015 and all premises should have coverage by 2020. Alongside this, we are rolling out a £2m package of training and support to businesses to encourage them to adapt and adopt new and innovative ideas.
Devon gets you online, and in touch, with UK and global customers.
Rail
The journey time to London Paddington takes as little as 2 hours. There are regular and fast rail links to Bristol and all points east and north. Services depart from mainline stations including Exeter, Honiton, Newton Abbot, Tiverton, Totnes and Plymouth.
Road
Devon’s road network provides ready access across the county, with longer journeys made easier by main arterial roads including the M5, A30 and A38 Devon Expressway. Average journey times from Exeter to London Heathrow or Birmingham are under three hours.
Exeter, Plymouth and Barnstaple offer efficient park and ride and scheduled bus services, and the county enjoys a large number of cycle-friendly routes.
Air
With easy access via the M5, Exeter International Airport serves a growing number of destinations across the UK, Europe and further a field. There are regular direct services to 50 destinations, including Paris, Amsterdam and Düsseldorf. Just an hour away, Bristol Airport provides services to a further 93 destinations.
Sea
Plymouth offers the shortest ferry route to western France and the Iberian Peninsula via Spain, with regular services provided by Brittany Ferries. The port supports a wide range of roll on-roll off operations and is equipped with purpose-built facilities for freight and passengers.
