Helping improve people’s digital lives

Julie Hawker- cosmic “Cosmic has always been based in east Devon and has effectively served a wider geographic area from our current base in Honiton, both with great local transport connections, but also through the internet and the high quality virtual support options which we can now offer. We are very much looking forward to improving the support we offer across Devon further with the installation of superfast broadband.

cosmic-logoMuch of Cosmic’s success has been down to their championing of dynamic, consistent and inspirational leadership skills, particularly when it comes to businesses which have intertwined their commercial and social goals. They are the first social enterprise to be accredited by a University to offer a module based course focusing on leadership skills for social entrepreneurs, having joined forces with the University of Plymouth in 2011 to deliver the UK’s only nationally accredited course for Leaders in Social Enterprise; the ‘Pioneer Programme’.

As Julie Hawker, chief executive explains : “As a leading UK social enterprise Cosmic has remained committed to our core social objectives around digital inclusion and addressing barriers to use and improvement of IT by individuals and businesses. An ongoing focus for this work is addressing the barriers faced by people and businesses based in rural areas. We also want to provide a working example for employers (and their employees) of how successfully digital business can be conducted in a mainly rural county, and therefore for us there’s no better place than Devon to be actively engaged in that work.”

Cosmic have received various recognition for their work, most recently winning the BT Get IT Together Award in the 2013 Technology4Good Awards and were featured on the 2011 RBS SEO shortlist as well.
