“We have seen substantial growth over the last 2 years and the redevelopment of the site next door makes perfect sense, and will be an important part of our future expansion plans in Ilfracombe. We are achieving great success with our strategy of providing high reliability, class leading power supplies to manufacturers of professional electronic equipment. In particular, European customers are continuing to grow and our market share with them is increasing rapidly."
Adam Rawicz - EMEA Managing Director , TDK-Lambda
Since 1948 TDK-Lambda has been a global leader in the development and manufacture of AC-DC power supplies and DC-DC converters and their Ilfracombe site, opened in 1966, serves as the head office for TDK-Lambda EMEA . This is now the second largest employer in Ilfracombe, north Devon, with an annual turnover of around £35 million generated by 309 employees involved in R&D, manufacturing and engineering as well as sales, IT and financial control.
TDK-Lambda encourage a learning environment so that all employees can work to fulfil their maximum potential and work closely with local schools and colleges offering work experience and careers advice. The result is a skilful, loyal team of employees, with over a third having been with the company for over 15 years.
Although the availability of regional development grants at the time were also a draw for TDK, their great coastal location promises a good lifestyle for employees, who now relish working in a leading edge, technically advanced global company whilst living in a fantastic environment.
Power supplies, manufactured in Ilfracombe, are used worldwide in a wide range of applications demanding high reliability. These include MRI and CT scanners, automated test equipment for semiconductors, TV broadcast antennas and even the Large Hadron Collider.
As TDK-Lambda EMEA Managing Director Adam Rawicz Rawicz explains: “Our competitive edge, in terms of technology, comes from long experience in configurable (modular) power supplies, and also digitally controlled power supplies with high efficiency and small size. In the years to come, we will continue to focus on digital and configurable (modular) power supplies for industrial, medical and testing and measuring equipment”.
